Praise Kier! Apple TV+ has officially renewed Severance for a third season.
The announcement follows the Season 2 finale of the hit workplace thriller, which evolved from a cult sci-fi mystery into Apple TV+’s most-watched series ever, according to the streamer.
Created by Dan Erickson and directed and executive produced by Ben Stiller, Severance stars Adam Scott as Mark Scout, a man who undergoes a radical procedure that separates his work and personal lives. While his “outie” mourns his late wife, his “innie” navigates life inside the mysterious biotech company Lumon. However, Lumon’s severance procedure isn’t quite what it seems.
A Growing Sci-Fi Phenomenon
In Season 1, Mark and his co-workers Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry), and Irving (John Turturro) discovered a way to awaken their “innie” selves in the outside world, igniting a rebellion against the company. Season 2 delved deeper into their discoveries, forcing them to confront unsettling truths about their real lives.
The show also features Tramell Tillman, Patricia Arquette, Christopher Walken, Dichen Lachman, Jen Tullock, and Michael Chernus. Over the three-year gap between its first two seasons, Severance built a devoted audience. Erickson previously told Variety that Season 3 is already mapped out, and the creators have a clear vision for the series’ endgame.
Excitement for Season 3
Ben Stiller expressed his enthusiasm for continuing the story, joking, “While I have no memory of this, I’m told making Season 3 will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory.”
Scott added, “I couldn’t be more excited to get back to work with Ben, Dan, the incredible cast and crew, Apple, and the whole Severance team. Oh hey also—not a huge deal—but if you see my innie, please don’t mention any of this to him. Thanks.”
Erickson shared his excitement, saying, “The idea of making more Severance with the greatest cast and crew on Earth is more thrilling to me than all the world’s finger traps combined.”
Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss praised the series, calling it “undeniable magic” and expressing excitement for what’s ahead in Season 3.
With a compelling story and a passionate fan base, Severance is set to continue delivering its unique blend of mystery, tension, and dark humor
