A 25-year-old Kansas City man is now facing additional felony charges for a series of burglaries committed in early March.
Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced that her office has filed 10 more felony charges against Javaune Tucker, who was initially charged with first-degree property damage. The new charges include:
- Felon in possession of a firearm (two counts)
- Unlawful possession of a machine gun
- First-degree tampering with a motor vehicle
- Second-degree burglary (six counts)
Authorities linked Tucker to five burglaries in the early hours of March 1 after a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee was spotted on surveillance footage during a burglary on Feb. 26.
As detectives gathered evidence and witness statements, they identified Tucker as a suspect. Court records indicate he wore the same clothing during multiple crimes.
When police arrested him, they recovered stolen firearms, including a Glock modified with a switch that converted it into a fully automatic weapon. Officers also found the key fob to the stolen Jeep, which contained a stolen cash register. Tucker admitted to stealing the vehicles and participating in the burglaries.
According to police, Tucker committed these property crimes in the Brookside and Waldo areas of Kansas City.
A statement from the prosecutor’s office noted that Tucker has a history of felony convictions, making it illegal for him to possess firearms. He is currently booked at the Jackson County Detention Center
