An Iowa man allegedly confessed to killing his wife to relieve her from years of suffering due to debilitating illnesses.
Husband Calls 911 to Report Killing
Richard Hoesing, 75, called 911 on the night of March 16, admitting he had killed his wife, according to a criminal complaint obtained by NBC affiliate WHO. Perry Police officers arrived at the scene and found Hoesing at his residence, where his wife, Jean Hoesing, 74, was discovered in the bedroom with a deep laceration across her throat.
Husband Claims Wife Was ‘Suffering’
According to The Perry News, Hoesing told dispatchers he “killed [his wife] to put her out of her misery,” citing her struggles with bipolar disorder and multiple sclerosis.
Evidence Found at the Scene
Police reported that Hoesing had blood on his hands and clothes, and a kitchen knife was found at the scene. It appeared an attempt had been made to clean the knife, though traces of blood remained on the tip.
Facing First-Degree Murder Charge
Hoesing was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is being held without bond at the Dallas County Jail and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 27.
