MIAMI – Miami police arrested Chris Chambers, 19, on Thursday after he allegedly held his pregnant girlfriend at gunpoint in a restroom at Roberto Clemente Park in Wynwood.
Chambers, who was convicted at 17 for attempted murder and armed carjacking, had been on probation until 2028 following a correctional boot camp.
Violent Attack at the Park
According to police, the six-months-pregnant victim told officers she had been in an on-and-off relationship with Chambers since 2023. While at the park, he allegedly grabbed her by the neck, dragged her by her shirt into a restroom, and pointed a gun at her abdomen and face, threatening to “clap her”—a street term for shooting someone.
A witness alerted park staff, who opened the restroom door and interrupted the attack. Chambers then walked out with the victim but continued holding onto her until he heard police sirens and fled.
Arrest and Charges
Officers found Chambers a few blocks away, carrying a pink backpack with a firearm inside. His address was listed as Miami Gardens, but Florida Department of Corrections records marked him as transient-homeless.
During questioning, both Chambers and the victim admitted to arguing over her phone, which he had taken earlier. He denied pointing a gun at her before his arrest.
Legal Proceedings
Chambers appeared in Miami-Dade County court on Friday, where prosecutors charged him with:
-
Aggravated kidnapping with a weapon
-
Aggravated battery on a pregnant victim
-
Strongarm robbery
-
Aggravated assault with a firearm
-
Domestic battery by strangulation
A judge denied bond for the kidnapping charge and set a $25,000 bond for the remaining charges. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Jason Bloch is set to oversee the case.
