MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Houston rapper Sauce Walka, whose real name is Albert Walker Mondane, was one of two people shot Saturday afternoon in downtown Memphis, according to his family.
The shooting occurred around 2:42 p.m. on Lt. George W. Lee Avenue near the FedEx Forum, according to Memphis police.
Mondane’s friend, who has not yet been identified, did not survive the attack. Mondane was shot in the thigh and rushed to the hospital, his father, Albert Walker, confirmed.
Walker, known to fans as “Poppa Sauce,” told that his son is coherent and expected to recover from his injuries.
“Had it not been for God, my son would’ve been dead,” Walker said.
Memphis police described the incident as isolated rather than random violence. Authorities have identified a suspect vehicle, but no arrests have been made.
