The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced that over one million Americans have yet to claim their pandemic relief stimulus checks. These payments are available through the Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) for individuals who did not receive their full Economic Impact Payments (EIP) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Deadline to Claim Recovery Rebate Credit
Taxpayers who have not yet filed their 2021 tax returns still have a chance to receive their stimulus payments. The IRS has set April 15 as the final deadline for submitting a 2021 tax return to claim these funds.
Since December 2024, the IRS has been issuing payments to those who either left the Recovery Rebate Credit section blank on their 2021 returns or entered $0 without realizing they were eligible. Eligible taxpayers can receive a maximum of $1,400 per person, either as a direct deposit or a paper check.

Unclaimed Refunds in Ohio
The IRS has also highlighted that many taxpayers have unclaimed tax refunds from the 2021 tax year. Among these are nearly 40,000 Ohio residents, who may be entitled to refunds. While the amount varies based on individual tax situations, the average unclaimed refund in Ohio is estimated at $762.
The Alaska Senate Finance Committee introduced a bill that would set a new PFD formula in state statute, under which three-quarters of an annual draw from Permanent Fund earnings would be directed to state services and the rest would go to the dividend. https://t.co/zsYbH0Z3jF

Alaska’s Pending Stimulus Payment
In addition to the IRS stimulus payments, Alaska residents may be eligible for an annual payout from the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) program. The PFD is issued from the state’s revenue earned from natural resources like oil and gas.
For 2025, the PFD amount is set at $1,702, a significant increase from the previous year’s $1,312. Residents can apply for this payment between January 1 and March 31 by submitting their applications through the PFD online portal (pfd.alaska.gov) or via mail.
How to Claim the Payments
Eligible individuals should act quickly to claim their stimulus payments and refunds:
- For the IRS stimulus check: File a 2021 tax return before April 15, 2025 to receive up to $1,400.
- For Ohio tax refunds: Eligible taxpayers should check their 2021 tax status to claim their unclaimed refund.
- For Alaska’s PFD: Residents should apply before March 31, 2025, to receive the $1,702 payment.
With deadlines approaching, taxpayers should ensure they take the necessary steps to claim any financial assistance they are entitled to.
