Two pedestrians lost their lives after being struck by a Metrolink train in the Lake Balboa neighborhood of Los Angeles on Monday evening.
The fatal collision occurred around 6:13 p.m. at Roscoe and Balboa Boulevards, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Initial reports from the L.A. City Fire Department stated that emergency crews arrived to find two victims who were beyond medical help.
Authorities provided conflicting descriptions of the victims, with LAPD stating they were one male and one female, while earlier reports suggested both were female. Their ages and identities have not been officially confirmed.
The Metrolink train involved in the collision remained upright and operational, carrying approximately 200 passengers. No passengers sustained injuries.
One passenger reported that officials initially cited an unauthorized emergency door opening as the reason for the train’s halt before later confirming the tragic pedestrian accident.
Authorities, including LAPD, Metrolink, and the L.A. County Department of the Medical Examiner, continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further updates are expected as officials confirm details.
